# How to work out the volume of concrete, area of shuttering and bitumen paint area of raft footing

This construction video tutorial provides complete guidance for making calculation of volume of concrete, area of shuttering and bitumen paint in raft footing.

The calculation is done on the basis of the following dimensions :-

Length of the footing = 13.5 meter

Breadth of the footing = 12.5 meter

Depth of the footing = 1.4 meter

There are various columns in footing which are taken as C1, C2 and C3

Size of column will be determined as length x breadth

Size of column C1 = 0.4 meter x 0.4 meter

Size of column C2 = 0.5 meter x 0.4 meter

Size of column C3 = 0.5 meter x 0.5 meter

To determine the size of the footing, the following formula is applied :-

Length x Breadth x Depth = 13.5 x 12.5 x 1.4 meter = 236.25 m^{3}

Volume of concrete of raft footing = Area x Depth = 236.25 m^{3}

To determine the Shuttering Area the following formula is used :-

Peripheral Length x Depth = (L+B) x 2 x D = (13.5 + 12.5) x 2 x D = 72.5 m^{2}

To find out the column area, the following formula is used :-

Length x Breadth x No. of columns

After putting the value, we get C_{1} = 0.4 x 0.4 x 3 = 0.48 m^{2}

C_{2} = 0.5 x 0.4 x 3 = 0.6 m^{2}

C_{3} = 0.5 x 0.5 x 3 = 0.75 m^{2}

Therefore, total area = 0.48 + 0.6 + 0.75 = 1.83 m^{2}
