Some useful tips for Slab Reinforcement Calculation

Slabs are horizontal concrete structure. The slabs are reinforced that is steel is included to withstand the ( compressive ) loads delivering to it.

Sometimes, the concrete slabs are directly supported with columns devoid of applying beams or girders. Such slabs are known as flat plates. Due to shear and negative bending around columns, sometimes, it is required to decrease the stresses by incorporating a solidified slab region in the surrounding areas of column and flared column tops. Such construction is known s flat- slab construction.

Entire R.C.C. Floor-slabs are categorized as follow :-

a. One Way Slab, b. Two Way Slab, c. Flat Slab, d. Ribbed Slab and e. R.B. Slab

Definition of Flat Slab: Flat Slab: A flat slab stands for a two-way reinforced concrete slab that generally does not contain beams and girders, and the loads are transmitted directly to the supporting concrete columns.

Slab Reinforcement Calculation

Assume,
Slab length = 50 feet.
And, Slab width = 40 feet.
10mm rods are applied at all the roofs.
Main and crank bar = 10 mm dia. @ 5 ?c / c.
Extra top (in roof slab) = 2 nos. 10 mm dia.
Extra Top (outside the roof slab) = 1 nos. 10 mm dia.

Slab Reinforcement calculation:

40 feet rod is essential:
Slab length = 50 feet = 50 x 12 = 600 inches.
If a rod is utilized in a 5 inch gap = 600/ 5 = 120 Nos. rod is necessary.
Therefore, the required quantities of rods = 120 x 40 = 4800 feet.

50 feet rod is essential:

Slab Width = 40 feet = 40 x 12 = 480 inches.
If a rod is utilized in a 5 inch gap = 480 / 5 = 96 Nos. rod required.
Therefore, the required quantities of rods = 96 x 50 = 4800 feet.

Extra Top rod necessary :

For extra-top, the number of rods are arranged at any one direction (length or width).
Therefore, Extra-top = 4800 feet.
Therefore, the total quantities of rods required are : (4800 + 4800 + 4800) = 14400 feet.
Therefore, the total weight of the rod = { (14400 x 0.62) / 3.28} = 2722 kg.
( 1 meter length, 10 mm Rod weight = 0.62 kg)
( 1 meter = 3.28 feet)
Therefore, the quantities of slabs necessary 2722 kg rod.
