Construction Cost Estimating

What T.E.M.P is & how it benefits the Construction Industry?

Your daily preparations start with T.E.M.P. for your crew. You have found that despite more challenging issues, many pavement maintenance crews still arrive at sites unprepared, often without the right tools and equipment, and have no idea what they will be doing that day. It would eliminate, or at least greatly reduce, many of the everyday issues encountered by foremen if they would take their crew's T.E.M.P. each morning. Keep your time management plan up to date at all times.

Over the years, crew leaders have been effective at the start of the day, and the foreman has just managed to make it to the end of it. The foremen in both cases have almost perfect knowledge of pavement maintenance issues, materials, equipment, etc. However, each day they fail to realize their full potential in their preparation.

Let's break this down for you and explain why T.E.M.P. creates. It's a short, easy-to-remember acronym. To answer the following questions, one must consider the foremen's perspective of preparation. T.E.M.P reduces daily challenges through these four words, and prepares your crew to complete the job successfully.

T is for Tools

You must make sure your workers have all the tools they need to perform the work today, such as breaking a rake stick, breaking a shovel, breaking or replacing a wand tip, etc.

The majority of crews fail to inspect their tools for damage and use other tools that are not designed for the task, or worse, purchase tools at a contractor's supply house, often for a lot more than you would normally pay.

E is for Equipment

Your equipment should be secure properly if you have it all tied down. Every time you leave the yard, make sure you've checked the equipment for maintenance. Currently, you need to rent an item to complete the job at hand.

Contractors who haven't been practicing preventive maintenance for a long time will have a difficult time finding equipment to lease or rent right now. Each American contractor looks for equipment, CDL A truckers.

M is for Materials

There is a schedule for your materials. A backup plan is available if Plan A fails. Identify the locations, phone numbers, etc. of at least two material plant options if you work out of town. While some contractors provide this information to their foremen, if you do not, you greatly hinder your foreman's ability to complete work on time.

P is for People

It seems you have a full crew today, but check if anyone is missing. Position your workers today, and set your goals.

You must engage your employees and be informed about their readiness, motivation, and level of focus on safety, quality, and production if you want to be your company's number one asset.
