How to work the materials quantities in M15 grade concrete

In this civil engineering short article, you will get some quick and useful tips to work out the materials quantities in M15 grade concrete.

Plain cement concrete comprises of cement, sand and crush aggregates.

Suppose, the ratio of cement, sand and aggregates for M15 grade concrete = 1:2:4

1. Length is given as 15 feet
2. Width is given as 8 feet
3. Height is given as 6 inches or .5 feet

The quantities of materials will be determined with the following formula :-

Material Ratio / Sum of ratio x dry volume
Sum of ratio = 1+2+4 = 7
Dray volume = Wet volume x 1.54

To determine the wet volume, multiply Length, width and height as follow :-

Weight volume = Length x Width x Height = 15 x 8 x .5 = 60 cft

So, dry volume will be = 60 x 1.54 = 92.4 cft

The quantity of cement will be = 1/7 x 92.4 = 13.2 cft (as ratio of cement = 1)

Cement bags = 13.2 / 1.25 = 10.6 bags (as each 50kg bag of cement is equal to 1.25cft of cement by volume.)

The quantity of sand = 13.2 x 2 = 26.4 cft (as ratio of sand = 2)

The quantity of crush aggregates = 13.2 x 4 = 52.8 cft (as ratio of aggregates = 4)
