MERIDEN — Bids for the Platt High School renovation project came in $6.76 million over budget, nearly mirroring the cost overages for the similar Maloney High School project, and the low number of bidders.
All of the sealed bids for Platt construction work were opened Tuesday afternoon as contractors eagerly anticipated results. Though some of the 21 aspects of work came in under budget, HVAC and electrical work were among those that came in significantly above estimates, Purchasing Officer Wilma Petro said.
“HVAC and electrical accounted for $5.5 million of the overages,” Petro said.
