How to compute concrete quantity in a staircase

This is a useful construction article that provides some good construction tips on how to estimate the quantity of concrete in a staircase.

Straight-flight stairs, quarter-turn stairs, half-turn stairs, branching stairs, and geometrical stairs are some of the general types of stairs.

Types of Stairs - On the ground of designing, stairs are categorized as transversely, and longitudinally supported.

a- Transversely supported (transverse to the direction of movement):

Transversely supported stairs comprise of:

? Two walls or beams or a amalgamation of both provide support to simply supported stps.
? Steps cantilevering out of a wall or a beam.
? Stairs cantilevering out of a central spine beam.

b- Longitudinally supported (in the direction of movement):

These stairs extent among supports at the top and bottom of a flight and unsupported at the sides. Longitudinally supported stairs are supported in ways given below:

a. Beams or walls at the exterior edges of the landings.
b. Internal beams at the ends of the flight along with beams or walls at the exterior edges of the landings.
c. Landings which are supported with beams or walls move to the longitudinal direction.
d. A mixture of (a) or (b), and (c).
e. Stairs having quarter landings involved with open-well stairs.

Calculation Method
Staircase quantity
R.C.C. work (staircase)
Base Toe wall
L X B X H 1.10 x 30 cm x 23 cm 1.10 x 0.30 x 0.23 = 0.076 cu. Meter
No. of Toe wall is one
So, total volume of Toe wall = 0.076 x 1 = 0.076 cubic meter
Waist slab of flights
Volume = L X B X H
